Subject: Re: Qoole CD. Whats this restrictive license agreement???

Okay... I'm sure everyone has been anticipating (and probably dreading)
Rant-boy's (i.e. me) response to this thread. So here goes...

My fellow Qoolies,

The clause in question is not an uncommon one... and IMO certainly not
an unfair one. I may be wrong (I only speak conversational legalese),
but here is how I read the clause:
If you plan on receiving any sort of financial compensation for
anything you make with Qoole, you have to get a separate license
agreement from Lithium. You are allowed to create and distribute
anything you create with Qoole so long as you don't receive any
form of payment for your work.
This seems reasonable to me. I think most of the Quake-related editing
programs have a similar clause. This sort of clause is used to protect
the program authors from being exploited.

In my understanding, the clause only prevents you from using Qoole for
profit under this license agreement... not _all_ license agreements. If
you want to use Qoole to help you make money, just ask Lithium for a new
license agreement _before_ you sell anything. Matt and Paul are reason-
able people and will most likely give you a more than reasonable license
agreement for commercial use if you need one.

Now, in light of Andrew Podesta's contribution to this thread, I would
like to nominate him for "Grand-High Fuckhead of the Century". Andrew,
people like you should be banished to the /dev/null file of life. If you

do actually start pirating Qoole, I hope someone hunts you down and beats

you into a bloody pulp... and that's coming from a pacifist! Excuse me
while I go scream...
      ******** AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! ********
