If they are .DEM files, put them in the c:\quake\id1 directory, then
within the game, type "playdemo demo", where demo is the name of the file.

Or, run quake like: quake +playdemo whatever

Don't add the .DEM extension. So if you want to play a scary.dem, just
type 'playdemo scary' in the console.
