Place your brush where you want it to be.  Apply the texture you wish to
use to it.  Pull up the Texture Properties dialog using the big button
on the taskbar at the bottom of your screen.  You'll see a highlight on
one face of your brush.  Spin the brush in the 3D View so you're looking
at that face.  Change the alignment using the scale, rotate, and angle
settings in the texture properties dialog.  Press "Next" to move on to
the next face.  Etc.

BTW, the thunderbolt sound is the only sound that need you to do
something special for it to be used, apparently is doesn't get precached
unless you've included Cthon in your level somewhere.  Check editing
sites, they list several different fixes for it.
