I did this exact thing about a year ago.  Took me a while to figure it
out myself :) Well anyway, after you have them all extracted, use a
paint program to convert the palette.  Quake uses a unique set of 
colors and the textures must use those, and only those colors.  

I used Paint Shop Pro 4, and it was pretty easy.  Just load the picture,
then load the palette, and choose the nearest match, or dithering, or
something like that.  The colours will be altered alittle, but it didnt
become too noticable on most of the textures.  Also, for the quake
palette file you must load into PSP4, I think you need to use another
program which extracts it from quake.  (I believe I got it on
ftp.cdrom.com). 

It was a very long and tedious process for me when I did it, and if I
could save you the trouble and send it too you I would;  unfortunately,
I deleted the wad file a long time ago.
