Hi all, Eraser in particular,

Eraser, what is your e-mail address? I would like to have replied to you
privately.

Fair enough.

That's what I read too.

Uh, actually. I do get my levels a run on servers, 'cos I go onto IRC
and ask, "who has their own quakeworld server?". Anyone who responds that
they do I ask to look at my level, and if they like it to put on it on
their server. It works for me. My latest level is being run on QW
servers as I type.

As far as I know, I am not mentioned on Blues News, and I'm certainly not
mentioned on Quake2.com because I haven't done any quake 2 levels ... yet.
However, I am mentioned on other sites, which have the sort of audience
that I am aiming at, so that's pretty cool as far as I am concerned.

I don't upload my levels to ftp.cdrom.com for the very reason that I do
not want ppl making profit out of my stuff, when they do jack-all of the
work. I want ppl to enjoy my level for free. Of course everybody wants
their level played, I whole-heartedly agree with you. However, have you
seen the number of levels there are at ftp.cdrom.com? Of course you have.
There are loads, with no way of knowing if any of them are any good before
you download them. Most of the readme files that ppl provide (if they
provide one) with their levels contain very little information about their
level. With a modem connection and hundreds of levels to look through,
you are just looking at an impossible task. I tried going through the levels
at the site when I had a connection through Janet (a connection many many
times faster than a modem for ppl who are not sure what I am on about) and
I still only managed about 10% of the levels there if that. So, I'm not
so sure that uploading a level to ftp.cdrom.com is worth anything whatsoever
unless you have the publicity to go with it, and then you would be able to
get your level on far better sites based on who/what your target audience
is. (BTW, I do realise that a mention on Blues News/ Quake2.com will
get good publicity, but then, getting a mention on a popular web-site
is something that ppl can do for themselves without needing to win a c
competition.

I don't think what were quoted as prizes for the competition are anything
more than ppl could get done for themselves. That's why I say no big deal.

I quite agree. Next time give your e-mail address so I can make a private
reply and not spam the rest of the group. I couldn't leave some of the
things you said unanswered.
