Subject: RE: Textures from Duke Nukem 3d to Quake

This is a very curious issue here. You would think that since Duke was
made to be edited and hacked, that it would be "ok" to use some Duke
textures in a new Quake level.

I made a wad of Duke textures and made
a small four block city level with the cool building, street, and
sidewalk textures. Made a new dir in Quake with a reaper progs.dat, Duke
pain and weapon sounds, and the Duke skin from Quake Rally. Slapped
about 10 Reapers in there and had a blast!!!

I'm sure others would enjoy it, but I've never published it on the net
or anything.

Why? Because, I'm not sure its legal. Even though Duke was made to be
hacked....using Duke textures for another game could be violating
copyright laws. Besides....a Duke Forever TC for Quake 2 would be out
and free to the public before 3d Realms could finish Duke Nukem Forever.
hehe

I guess it all depends on how far you take it. You might could use just
a couple textures and it wouldnt be a big deal. But if you go all out
and make a Duke Quakem TC, well that might be a problem.

But then there is those guys doing the Hexen TC for Quake, and Raven
knows what they are doing....and is actually looking forward to seeing
what they do with it.

So I don't know, it could go either way.

I guess the only way to really find out would be to e-mail 3d Realms and
just ask.
