Dear all,
I've wrote once to the list about this problem and tried the =
suggestions, but no luck. I'm hoping that by reiterating the story with =
a little more detail, as well as the results of the suggestions I tried, =
that maybe someone will be able to help me once again.
I was working on my level and decided to add the lighting with a wall =
torch and associated brush model. The first brush model is triangular =
and worked out fine when I saved it, and then QBSP'd, LIGHTed, and ran =
it in Quake. I wasn't really satified with the shadows it let off in my =
level, so I moved the brushes over a little to the left of the wall they =
were "mounted" onto. I resaved the level, and dumb me, I used the =
-onlyents command on the QBSP, so when I viewed it in Quake, the torch =
entities moved, but my brush models did not. So I went back into QOOLE, =
reQBSP'd the thing without the -onlyents line, went back into Quake, but =
nothing changed. It was as if QBSP didn't even pay attention to the =
fact that I re-QBSP'd without the -onlyents line.
Soooooo (i know it's long), I went back into QOOLE, deleted the brushes =
and entities altogether, and re-did the lighting for the room from =
scratch (only three lights in this room, no biggie). I made a new brush =
model, positioned them and the torch entities where I wanted, re-saved =
the level under a new name, re-QBSP'd, LIGHT'd and viewed it in Quake. =
BUT THE DAMN THING LOOKED EXACTLY THE SAME AS IT DID IN MY PREVIOUS =
LEVEL! LIKE I HADN"T DONE ANYTHING AT ALL! I did as some suggested and =
checked to make sure I didn't have the source directory for QBSP screwed =
up. That was O.K.! It still has the same directory I've used for three =
months now. Another suggested that I delete all the associated files, =
except the .QLE, and then re-compile and that it should work. Now, =
maybe it would, but when I compile and start up Quake (to view it), I =
get the 'ol "Couldn't spawn server / mylevel.map..." I guess either the =
.MAP file or the .pts file that I erased was neccesary to run the thing, =
but now I'm not sure how to recreate them. I tried re-compiling the =
level. I assumed this would work because in the directory =
Quake\Id1\Maps, there are a bunch of .BSP and .pts files of the levels =
I've been working on. I assume they've been created by Exporting QBSP, =
cuz I haven't made any. But re-compiling doesn't get my redone level =
viewable, can't even start up Quake. Oh, by the way, there are NO LEAKS =
reported nor any detected by the -pointfile command. No LIGHT errors =
reported either.
If you can help or have had the problem yourself, lemme know, cause I =
HATE THIS! HEEEELLLLLP!
Ken B.
