If your hard drive is rattling away during the freezes, then it's probably Windows reorganising the memory and dumping stuff like the desktop information onto the hard disk. DOS and GL games are likely to suffer from this because Windows has no way of knowing that they're games. I don't get this crap from any of the Exclusive Mode DirectX games in my collection -- if the memory's too fragged, the defragging happens while the game starts up. It makes the start-up slower, but when it's finished, I don't get freezes. (Crashes, yes[1]. Freezes, no.) -- Sean Timarco Baggaley E&OE [1] (But only with Carmageddon.
