I don't know about any of these, although I do know that there probably
isn't a grenade launcher on the planet that can only shoot 25 feet or
so.  Hell, grenades can be thrown by hand much farther than that.  

If you haven't heard from somewhere else, already, the railgun is based
on a similar gun from the movie Eraser that shoots slugs of uranium (one
of the heaviest metals on the planet) at really high speeds and'll go
through just about anything.  My roommate's dad said that some anti-tank
slugs are made from uranium as their weight provides greater impact and
will shatter the interior of the tank's armor plate, forcing it to shoot
out in a spray of shrapnel.  I think it's called a HESH shell or
something (don't quote me on that) and stands for Hight Explosive
SHrapnel or something like that (again, don't quote me). 

There used to be this kick ass book at this one library called Weapons
that was HUGE and explained everything from stone axes to actually
giving a basic schematic of an atomic bomb.  For the life of me, I can't
find it anywhere anymore...
