    You can't actually do a modem-to-modem game in Quake2 (it doesn't
support it like Quake does) you need to network your computers
together. Basically what you have to do is go to My Computer->Dial-up
Networking->Connections. Now under the Connections menu you should have
a "Dial-up Server" option. If you don't who's ever going to be the
server for you're game of choice (this works for any game) has to
download the "ISDN Accelerator Pack" (I have version 1.1) from
www.microsoft.com. After installing the patch, choose "Dial-up Server"
and click on "Allow Caller Access". Now who-ever is calling the
server has to go to the Connection menu and click on Make New Connection
(and obviously follow the easy instructions). The client (who-ever is
calling the server) only has to do this once.
After the client makes the new connection, a new icon will appear
under Dial-up Networking. Now the server selects Allow Caller Access
and the client calls (using the newly created icon of coursee). After
the modems connect, you both start Quake 2 and play a network game (In
Quake 2 -> Multiplayer -> Start / Join network server). and you're all
set. Now suppose you both (while still connected) want to play just
regular Quake (as opposed to Quake 2). Just quit the game and start up
Quake. You don't have to make a second call because the computers are
networked together. To hang up, and try not to becuase it's easy to
do, you just have to Dbl-click the network icon (in the System Tray
(right side of the taskbar) and click disconnect)). If you are
confused, don't worry, just try it out. If you still can't get it, give
me an E-Mail, I'll try to help.
