03/21/98 Hexagonal Iris Door Notes: Hexagonal shaped, iris opening door made from 6 func_trains (192 x 164 x 32) with triggers and target_speakers to give it a "real" operating door sound. Beware that the operation is not perfect and tiny gaps develop between the individual door panels after it has been operated once. This is due to basic mathematical problem and the inherent limitations of the entities in Quake2. Careful lighting will help in hiding those to the player assuming you ever use this kludge in one of your maps. Also, the majority of the brush surfaces have rotated textures so there will be a lot of rework when you move it around (even with texture lock) and even more if you rotate it. Sorry but this can't be helped until we get editors with more sophisticated texture alignment and lock features. About the gaps, I want to state that I don't normally allow myself such compromises when making prefabs and it is not without frustration that I release it but I promised my buddy AzrKnight that I would make him one so here it is. :) Hope you don't mind the imperfections. Prefab type: Quake 2 Editors used: WC 1.6 and qED v2.0 Entities: func_train (6), path_corner (12), trigger_multiple (1), target_speaker (8), trigger_relay (4) Textures: e1u1/dr04_1 and e1u1/wgrate1_4 for the doors panels e1u1/wslt1_1 and e1u1/wslt1_2 for the door frame e1u1/trigger for the trigger brush Build time: About 8 hours (damm textures and Q2 train sounds) Files: You should have: hexiris.txt (this file) hexiris.qgp Author: EutecTic (jfgrol@cam.org) Off-topic: Dedicated to my mom who died on this day one year ago. Credits: Matt Tagliaferri, the creator of qED, Valve Software for Worldcraft and Id software, the creators of Quake 2. Legal stuff: This prefab can be used and modified to make maps and new prefabs at will provided that it's redistributed for free. Oh yes,... a little credit is always appreciated ;)
